Lines and floor markings are a way to clearly define space for a specific purpose and reduce delays by keeping things moving throughout the facility in a safe and orderly manner.

  • Improve your workflowwith color codes such as the common use of blue to designate work in progress and black for finished products.
  • remover bugsorienting new hires and reminding everyone about workflow and standard processes.
  • Maximize valuable real estateDesignate space for raw materials, components, equipment, and products in various stages of completion.

Marking of floors and lines of lines for greater security.

Floor markings are the most effective way to define and communicate travel routes, work areas and safety zones.

  • Secure traffic flow:Pathways for vehicular and pedestrian traffic routes and door turning areas benefit from paint markings on the floor, guiding flow in optimal patterns and preventing collisions. Floor scratching and light directional painting is a tool to meetOSHA walking and working surfacesrequirements and reinforce safe and orderly PIT (Industrial Motorized Truck) movement. We may also use non-slip or non-skid materials to reduce the risk of slipping and falling, a common cause of workplace injuries.
  • Hazard alerts:Proper use of stripes can be used to mark the locations of fire extinguishers, electrical panels and high voltage areas, pinch points, trip/fall hazards, overhead obstructions and other hazards. It can be a hazard communication tool or HAZCOM for hazardous chemical storage areas.
  • Durability:Cones or tape work well for planning purposes and temporary use, but for warehouses, factories, and other high-wear industrial/commercial facilities, professional painting and flooring contractors will provide consistent, long-lasting results.

The following are commonly recognized, making these floor markings useful for orienting and protecting new employees:

  • Red or yellow markings on the floor identify physical hazards.Red indicates that the hazard is related to fire and yellow indicates a hazard that can be tripped over, caught or hit.
  • Floor markings with yellow and black diagonal stripesindicate the need for additional care.
  • red and white stripesdefine areas of the floor that must be kept clear for safety reasons, such as access to fire-fighting equipment.
  • black and white linesthey are used to mark areas of the floor that must be cleared for operational purposes.

Quality goals and lean manufacturing

Painted floor markings in warehouses and factories are an easy and inexpensive tactic that can be used to support lean processes and quality initiatives. By reminding workers and guiding workflow and activities, line drawing can be an effective tool to help reinforce and maintain almost any 5S objective:

  1. Seiri or Sort: Clearly mark space for essential items needed to complete tasks.
  2. Seiton or put in order: Arrange items logically by marking their designated location.
  3. Sixo o Brillo: Help keep work areas clean and organized by marking how space is used.
  4. Size or standardize: Floor markings are a communication tool to enforce the organization's rules and regulations.
  5. Shitsuke ou Sustain: Floor markings can help maintain discipline over time.

Quality certifications such as Six Sigma (6S), ISO 9000 or Lean Manufacturing require all space to be organized, well-defined and specifically designated, and these certifications can be time-consuming and expensive. Painters USA's floor marking and stripping services will help you support and maximize these investments. We are happy to discuss how we can help you achieve and maintain quality certifications, as well as prepare for inspections or audits.

They contacted us and asked us to help with the lean manufacturing transformation of an Illinois automotive glass manufacturer.

Client's objective:Substantial improvement and restoration of its almost non-existent pavement designations and pavements.

Steps in this radical transformation included the following:

  • First, we use our state-of-the-art diamond grinder to remove the existing epoxy and open up the pores in the concrete. This allowed the high build epoxy to bond as durable and permanent as possible.
  • Then we fixed all the holes, cracks and chips under the new walkway.
  • We then primed the walkway with a penetrating epoxy primer.
  • We painted one coat of lucky green 100% solid polyaspartic epoxy, finished off with two quick-drying coats on all stripes and crosshatching in yellow and white.
  • We applied a clear coat of urethane to the entire walkway.
  • We finished it off with a non-slip aggregate diffusion for added traction and security.

These new walkway and lane designations are strong, practical and low maintenance, perfect for a busy facility. And there's no denying that the bright colors chosen for this flooring add clarity, character and a little Wow! factor for space.

We care about safety, efficiency and high-quality coatings, so when a project involves all three, we're excited. That's what happened when an industrial plant in Illinois/

Client's objective:To help organize your workspace by installing durable walkways and walkways for clear direction at busy intersections and to keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently.

The line painting project in a nutshell:

  • It all starts with preparation! In this case, we use a diamond grinding to prepare the surface for maximum adhesion. The opening of the pores of the concrete allows the adhesion of the flooring system.
  • All lines have been carefully etched and scored to create crisp, clean edges.
  • We selected a high solids Macropoxy 646 fast curing epoxy for this application. It is a high build, fast drying polyamide epoxy specifically designed to protect steel and concrete in harsh industrial environments.
  • We finished it off with a Rexthane urethane top coat for durability.

With decades of experience in this type of work, the project was completed on time, on budget and with minimal disruption to the client's operations.

common questions

How can markings and lines painted on the floor keep warehouses safe?

Stripe lines and other paint markings promote safety because they are ever-present visual cues to guide and direct workers as they perform their jobs and move around the facility. Functional paint improves visibility, identifies safe paths and routes to avoid collisions, and marks potential hazards such as high voltage areas or tripping hazards. There is even non-slip/skid-resistant epoxy floor paint that reduces the risk of slips and falls.

Does OSHA require markings on factory/warehouse floors?

Norma OSHA 1910.22for work and walkway surfaces requires permanent aisles and aisles to be properly and consistently marked. Hallway and hallway markings should be at least 2 inches wide to be clearly visible and up to 6 inches wide depending on the room. Striping is a practical and inexpensive way to create these marks.

Can floor markings help me avoid OSHA safety violations?

In some situations, yes. For example, correct use of paint can meet HAZCOM (Hazard Communications) requirements, draw attention to electrical equipment and high voltage areas, provide clear directional guidance for the safe and orderly movement of powered industrial trucks (PIT), and identify areas work and storage. for hazardous materials.

Can floor markings help me with ISO 9000, Six Sigma and other lean and quality certifications?

Yes, these types of functional painting practices are inexpensive and effective tools for meeting and maintaining the requirements of many certification programs as they communicate and define the space for standardization, consistency, workflow, worker productivity, and also safety.

Does OSHA require specific colors for warehouse or factory floors?

While colors are not mandatory, there are some commonly used and recognized recommendations. For example, red or yellow markings on the floor identify potential physical hazards. Yellow and black diagonal bands define areas that indicate extra caution; red and white bands define areas that must be kept clear for safety reasons (such as access to fire fighting equipment) and black and white bands are used to mark areas that must be kept clear for operational purposes. Color coding is often used for multiple pipelines so that their content is easily recognizable.

What does the line striping process involve?

For Painters USA, our process consists of four basic steps. We start by marking the area for new or renewed stripes. Then we prepare the surface by carefully cleaning and smoothing the edges. We carefully apply the stripes and finish with a clear epoxy coat for added strength and longer life.

What are the other benefits of painted floor markings?

In addition to security and compliance purposes, pain can be used to improve efficiency and quality by eliminating errors, improving workflow, and improving process management, inventory, and other features. Striping also helps property owners and managers maximize every square foot of expensive real estate.
